2021-04-09 Repair an AEG 64619 washing machine

This time the washing program selector of a different machine had a problem. The ratchet function between the programs was not working any more and also the off position did not work as expected, so that the machine was in on position the whole time. Other than making no noise when switching, the program selector still worked.

Since the machine was build in 2007 there are no official parts from AEG any more.

I disassembled the selector and found that the selector pcb board and metal finger fan for encoding the programs was still in good shape. The ratched function did not work because a spring with a metal cylinder on top was not able to work correcly due to wear and tear.

The spring was bent and the metal tip eroded.

The solution was to solder the metal cylinder to the spring and form a round solder shape on top so that the ratchet is working again. That took some tries and some filing, but worked in the end.

So this repair didn't cost anything, of course I don't know how long it will work 😉
